SUPERBEN! A new play by Philip Mutz
Appropriate for ages 5-10yrs. (and Parents too!)
SuperBen is the adventure of Ben and Leslie, two wildly imaginative best friends, who are given a sudden dose of reality when Ben starts getting bullied at school. The friends must go to superhero lengths to solve their bully problem. Along the way, new doors are opened as they learn to trust themselves and understand the importance of accepting others.
This new 30 minute play by Philip Mutz, tackles serious issues and offers real-life solutions. It’s guaranteed to be a blast! The play will be followed by a short workshop in which the actors talk about the themes of the play with fun, age-appropriate activities for the kids.

Philip Mutz (Playright, BEN) is happy to return with The Think Theater Project after playing Mr. Man in last summer’s production of Peacemaker. Other Playwright credits include: Kidnapping Laura Linney, which premiered in the Midtown International Theatre Festival. In addition to being a playwright and producer, Philip most recently spent four seasons with the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey and touring nationally with the children's theatre production Encore. Other recent acting credits include: A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Accidental Death of an Anarchist with Burning Coal Theatre Company, Taming of the Shrew and Lysistrata with Shakespeare Santa Cruz, and Arcadia and Burn This with Stella Adler Studios. Philip has taught drama to inner-city children in New Jersey and holds a B.F.A. in Drama from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Phillip Fazio (Director) Phillip graduated from The Boston Conservatory with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a minor in Directing. Recent directing credits include Rent, Cabaret, The Last Five Years, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Macbeth, Rocket Man, Almost Maine, and Assistant Directing the Center Theatre Group/Deaf West revival of Pippin (Directed by Tony Award Nominee Jeff Calhoun) at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. In 2007, Phillip was invited to be a part of Lincoln Center Theatre’s Director’s Lab, a program where up and coming directors get a chance to meet, work with, and receive mentoring from professionals in NYC. Before moving to New York, Phillip spent three years as an Artist in Residence at Phoenix Theatre. During this time he directed two Theatre for Young Audience productions: The Quiltmaker's Gift (a musical version of the popular children’s book) and an original bilingual production of Alice In Wonderland (AriZoni Nomination for Best Director).
Lena Kaminsky (Project Leader, Leslie) is thrilled to be returning to Family Week with The Think Theater Project. Lena has worked at many regional theaters around the country. Some credits include Doubt at Northern Stage in Vermont, Trying at Hartford Theaterworks, The Weir at Palm Beach Dramaworks, and The Kansas City Repertory Theater where she portrayed Janis Joplin in the rock musical Love, Janis. Television credits include Law & Order. She was in the first touring company of the TheaterWorks USA production of Walk Two Moons. Lena spent a year touring with the George Street Playhouse outreach tour, bringing three shows focusing on conflict resolution to various age groups throughout New Jersey. She spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons with the Adirondack Theater Festival's StageWrite! program, which hires professional actors to perform plays written by students based on their current curriculum. Lena received her BFA from Emerson College in Boston.
Christian Mansfield (Peter) is thrilled to visit beautiful Provincetown for the first time as a part of "SuperBen." He has been seen Off Broadway in "The Penguin Tango," a comedy based on the true story of a family of gay penguins living in the Central Park Zoo. Other NYC credits include "That Other Woman's Child" (NYMF) and "Christmas Rappings" (Theater at Judson). He has also toured the country with "42nd Street" and appeared in many regional productions from coast to coast. Christian would like to thank Phillip, Phil, Lena and the whole SuperBen team for this great opportunity. Christian is a native New Yorker with a BFA in musical Theater from the University of Miami.
Eva Kaminsky (Producer) was last year’s director of Peacemaker, and is thrilled be working with Think Theater again this summer. As an actor, Eva will be working on two new plays this summer at the Contemporary American Theatre Festival, in Shepherdstown, WV. She has performed in National Tours, Off Broadway, and at many regional theatres across the country. On film she can be seen in the upcoming The Adjustment Bureau, and on TV has appeared on such shows as “Ugly Betty”, “ER”, and all of the “Law & Order” series. Eva received her BFA from Boston University, and has been a part of many children’s theatre productions with such companies as TheatreWorks/USA, American Stage Festival, and Hope Summer Repertory. She has also worked on the educational end, helping children learn how to write their own work at both The Adirondack Theatre Festival (StageWrite!), and for a season with The Young Storytellers Foundation in Los Angeles. This year she started teaching kids and teens at The Acting Academy in New Jersey.
Our Goal: To create a community for children of LGBT parents through the use of theater, sparking critical thinking and discussion focusing on personal yet common experiences...and to have FUN while we do it!!
